to mark the 50-year city partnership between berlin and los angeles, film curator marc glöde and collector axel haubrok are putting together a film festival and exhibition under the name la > x which focuses on artistic viewpoints from los angeles.

the kick-off event for la > x is the exhibition opening at FAHRBEREITSCHAFT on september 12, 2017. works from stephen prina and christopher williams will make up the focal point of the exhibition.

the 14-part work „monochrome painting“ by prina will be on display, an art work on the history of monochrome painting. his works take the dimensions from original formats by kasimir malewitsch to blinky palermo will be shown. the canvases were prepared „classically“ by the artist, but subsequently spray-painted at an auto paint shop in the color of a vw golf. it is our special pleasure to show these works at FAHRBEREITSCHAFT.

the works shown by christopher williams will focus on ephemera. these invitations, texts, and posters all point to other works, however, not by assuming their form, but instead through motifs. usually such invitations, posters i.e., are simply-made promotional items. williams consciously transfers his motifs to giant formats. he turns the relationship upside-down and underlines this by the elaborate work necessary to frame the posters.

two of margaret honda’s works build a bridge to the la > x film festival. „spectrum reverse spectrum“ shows a 70mm-film as sculpture. honda developed a new work „film (FAHRBEREITSCHAFT)“, especially for the exhibition, where color lighting gels, as used in hollywood productions, are applied to windows in the operator’s reception area.

on the following day, september 13, 2017 the la > x film festival follows the bridge built by honda and presents a day’s worth of films from l.a. artists, as well as productions where l.a. is the central point of interest.

the exhibition opening will take place on tuesday, september 12, 2017 from 7 – 9 pm at the FAHRBEREITSCHAFT, herzbergstraße 40-43, 10365 berlin.

the exhibition will run from september 15 to march 3, 2018. visitation is possible on saturdays after 3 pm with pre-registration at visit@haubrok.org. during berlin art week, the exhibition is open on september 15 from 7 – 9 pm, and on september 16 and 17 from 12 – 6 pm.

the film festival will take place on september 13 from 10 am – 10 pm at kino arsenal – institute for film and video-art at potsdamer straße 2, 10785 berlin. registration is not necessary.

anlässlich der 50-jährigen städtepartnerschaft zwischen berlin und los angeles realisieren der filmkurator marc glöde und der sammler axel haubrok unter dem titel la > x ein filmfestival und eine ausstellung, in denen jeweils künstlerpositionen aus los angeles im fokus stehen.

den auftakt zu la > x bildet die eröffnung der ausstellung in der FAHRBEREITSCHAFT am 12. september 2017. dabei bilden arbeiten von stephen prina und christopher williams den schwerpunkt der ausstellung.

von prina wird die 14-teilige arbeit „monochrome painting“ gezeigt, die sich mit der geschichte der monochromen malerei auseinandersetzt. arbeiten in den original- formaten von kasimir malewitsch bis blinky palermo werden gezeigt. der künstler hat die leinwände „klassisch“ präpariert, sie anschließend jedoch in einer autolackiererei in der farbe für den vw golf spritzen lassen. ein besonderes vergnügen, diese arbeiten in der fahrbereitschaft zu zeigen.

von christopher williams werden ephemera präsentiert. zwar geht es bei diesen einladungen, texten und postern ebenfalls um den hinweis auf andere arbeiten, hier jedoch nicht durch die übernahme der formate, sondern die der motive. in der regel sind solche einladungen bzw. poster einfach produzierte streuartikel. williams überträgt seine motive bewusst auch auf riesige formate. er stellt die verhältnisse somit auf den kopf und unterstreicht das, indem die plakate aufwendig gerahmt werden müssen.

zwei arbeiten von margaret honda bilden die brücke zum la > x filmfestival. „spectrum reverse spectrum“ zeigt einen 70mm-film als skulptur. mit der arbeit „film (FAHRBEREITSCHAFT)“ hat honda eine neue arbeit speziell für den ausstellungsort entwickelt bei der belichtungsfilter, wie sie bei der produktion von hollywood-filmen eingesetzt werden, auf die fenster im empfangsbereich der einsatzleitung appliziert werden.

das la > x filmfestival nimmt den brückenschlag von honda am folgenden tag, dem 13. september 2017, auf und präsentiert einen tag lang filme von künstlern aus l.a. sowie produktionen bei denen l.a. im zentrum des interesses stehen.

die eröffnung der ausstellung findet am dienstag, den 12. september 2017 von 19 – 21 uhr in der FAHRBEREITSCHAFT, herzbergstraße 40-43, 10365 berlin statt.

die ausstellung läuft vom 15. september bis zum 3. märz 2018. der besuch ist samstags ab 15 uhr nach anmeldung unter besuch@haubrok.org möglich. während der berlin art week ist die ausstellung am 15. september von 19 – 21 uhr, am 16. und 17. september von 12 – 18 uhr geöffnet.

das filmfestival findet am 13. september von 10 – 22 uhr im kino arsenal – institut für film und videokunst in der potsdamer straße 2, 10785 berlin, statt. eine anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.
